Another
week, another tool!
This
week we explored webcasts. This is just another great way to improve your
digital literacy! Many people enjoy reading, but when it isn’t a terribly
engaging topic, sometimes it is hard to concentrate. I don’t know about you,
but I find it much easier to pay attention to a video or recording when the
person is full of enthusiasm rather than read a long explanation to myself. Webcasts
make it possible to learn in a more interesting and engaging way. This allows
you to show passion and emphasis, unlike simple text. Although you wouldn’t
necessarily think it, it also makes it seem more personal, putting a face or
voice to the text. This type of tool is especially great for anyone that wants
to teach people, as sometimes directions are not all that easy to follow in a
written format. The best example I saw of this was a Ted Talk that I watched. Webcast technology
allows people all over the world to learn and engage with each other while
getting education that they may have not otherwise been able to get. 20 years
ago this would not have been possible, but this method of teaching is even more
personalized than what we receive in large universities with large classes. I
highly recommend watching it!
These
tools are very user friendly, although they didn’t come quite as naturally to
me as others have. This does make sense however, since I have not really been
exposed to them in the past. The important thing is that now I am learning
about it, being able to pass on my knowledge to others and have these tools to
utilize whenever I see fit!
